Fujinon XF lenses

Designed especially for the X-Pro1 are three new Fujinon XF prime lenses, each designed to offer the ultimate in image quality. An all-glass construction features aspherical elements that reduce chromatic aberation and Super EBC coatings that prevent flare.

Metal construction matches the build quality of the X-Pro1’s body, and a precision-machined aperture ring offers aperture adjustment in 1/3-stop increments.

The Fujinon XF lens mount takes full advantage of the mirrorless design of the X-Pro1. By mounting the lens deeper inside the camera, closer to the sensor, resolution is increased across the frame. Information exchange between the body and lens ensure a responsive experience at all times.

X-Trans CMOS technology

The new APS-C 16MP X-Trans CMOS sensor in the X-Pro1 has been developed to fully exploit the exceptional performance of the XF lens series and capture the ultimate image quality.

Taking its inspiration from our experiences of traditional photographic film, FUJIFILM have adopted an innovative colour filter array that eliminates the need for an optical low-pass filter. This revolutionary sensor achieves new heights in resolution quality and colour reproduction and delivers brilliant optical performance from every lens.

Moiré occurs when two regular patterns overlap and interfere with each other creating a pattern that does not exist in reality. This is a common problem in cameras using Conventional Bayer arrays where the regular pattern of the sensor clashes with the pattern being captured.

The new X-Trans CMOS filter array

Learning from our experiences of traditional photography we arranged the patten of red, green and blue photosites on the surface of the Fujifilm X-Trans sensor in a more random manner than in conventional Bayer array sensors. This minimises moiré effects to the point that the X-Pro1 does not need a low-pass filter, which, in turn, boosts resolution and sharpness.

More accurate colour reproduction

The X-Trans CMOS's 6 x 6 pixel pattern also ensures that colour reproduction is better than that achieved with an ordinary Bayer array.

All horizontal and vertical lines contain at least one R, G and B pixel whereas Bayer array sensors do not have R and B in some lines resulting in false colour reproduction.

Dust reduction system

Every time the lenses are changed there is a chance that dust may enter the camera. Even dust particles invisible to the human eye may degrade the quality of all the images. Ultra Sonic Vibration sensor cleaning can be set to occur automatically every time the cameras is switched on and off to ensure that dust particles that have adhered to the surface of the sensor are removed.

Hybrid Multi Viewfinder

A hybrid optical/electronic viewfinder offers a choice of viewing modes and displays shooting information at a glance.

Informative finders that adapt to your view

Fujifilm’s Hybrid Viewfinder technology allows photographers to choose between a bright, intuitive optical finder (OVF) and a highly accurate electronic view (EVF), complete with previews of depth of field and white balance. The X-Pro1 takes the concept further, using different optical magnifications and frame sizes to allow accurate framing with any of the XF-mount lenses in the system, even in OVF mode.

When an XF lens is mounted on the camera body, the most appropriate of the two available viewfinder magnifications is combined with the correct frame size. This gives the X-Pro1 photographer an instinctive view of their subject through the bright, high quality optical finder.

Magnifying system

Viewfinder magnification changes automatically when an XF lens is mounted. There is very little difference in the angle of view between OVF and EVF modes, so switching between the two is smooth and natural.

Full manual controls

Don’t let anything stand in the way of your creativity. The X-Pro1’s classic exposure controls, including a top-plate shutter-speed dial and traditional aperture ring, are simple and intuitive.

Traditional exposure controls

Above everything else, a camera’s controls should be intuitive. They should fall under your fingers and thumbs as you pick up the camera, and let you shoot quickly and easily without taking it away from your eye. The X-Pro1 draws on decades of classic camera design, and throws in a few modern touches for a perfect combination of old and new.

Aperture ring and shutter speed dial

Traditional aperture rings surrounding the lenses fall naturally under the thumb and forefinger of the left hand as you hold the camera. Your right hand will find the lockable shutter speed dial just as naturally. Take complete control with manual exposure settings, or introduce automation with aperture priority, shutter priority or program AE modes.

Exposure compensation

Stay in control of exposure. A dedicated exposure compensation dial allows ±3 stops of adjustment in program AE, aperture priority AE or shutter priority AE mode, and falls naturally under the right thumb so it can be found without taking your eye away from the viewfinder.

Fine tune exposure adjustment

To maximise control without taking your hand off the lens, the aperture ring adjusts in thirds of stop. The shutter speed can also be adjusted in thirds of a stop using the left and right menu buttons.

The conveniently placed "Q" button provides access to all of the non-mechnical shooting settings on one easy-to-use screen.

Choice of metering modes

The X-Pro1 has three different metering modes. Multi metering dissects a scene into different zones and analyses each one in detail before deciding on the correct exposure. With spot metering you can stay in control and decide where to measure exposure from yourself – handy in tricky lighting conditions. Lastly, average metering uses a time-honoured and predictable method for evaluating the exposure of the whole scene. Flip between metering modes quickly and easily.

In addition to auto white balance mode, the X-Pro1 also offers seven white-balance presets to cater for different light sources, a custom white balance facility and the ability to set a specific colour temperature in Kelvin.

White balance is also adjustable in very fine steps on both red⇔cyan and blue⇔yellow scales in increments of ±9 steps. This levels of precision allows subtle mood adjustments and creative effects to be created in camera.

ISO sensitivity

ISO200-6400 range

Expand the normal sensitivity range of the X-Pro1 from ISO200-6400 to ISO100-12,800. Great when you need that extra sensitivity in low light, or the ability to shoot at larger apertures in bright light.

ISO Ceiling Setting & Minimum Shutter Speed Limit

The X-Pro1’s Auto ISO setting varies ISO sensitivity to ensure a good combination of aperture and shutter speed is achieved every time. A sensitivity ceiling of up to ISO3200 can be set to ensure picture quality is maintained. Similarly a minimum shutter speed as long as ¼ sec can be programmed to safeguard against camera shake.

Focusing

49-points selectable AF

No fewer than 49 focus points ensure autofocus operates swiftly and accurately, recognising the primary subject and bringing it into focus. The active autofocus point is selectable within the position of the AF frame.

0.01s shutter lag

When using the optical viewfinder, shutter lag is reduced to a minimum, resulting in fewer missed opportunities when timing is critical.

High-speed contrast-detection autofocus

The contrast-detection autofocus system in the X-Pro1 is faster than previous versions of this technology, thanks to the speed of the new EXR image processor and the design of the CMOS sensor.

Dual manual-focus methods

Distance and depth-of-field scales are shown in the viewfinder, together with an aperture value, providing a helpful guide for focusing. Focus can be adjusted manually by rotating the focus ring on the front of the lens while checking the image in live view. Focus-point zoom is available for focus confirmation.

AF assist lamp for low-light scenes

An AF assist lamp automatically illuminates a subject in low light, assisting autofocus and aiding composition.

Accurate AF, even up close

Focusing is accurate and precise, even in macro photography situations where depth of field is limited at close focusing distances.

Film simulation mode

Colour reversal film

Drawing on Fujifilm’s impressive heritage in professional transparency film, the X-Pro1 offers photographers colour reproduction modes that are based on classic emulsions from the era of film photography. Landscapers will love the vivid, bold colours of Velvia, while portrait photographers will appreciate the Astia simulation mode for its softness and skin tones. Provia is also present offering accurate colour reproduction and a natural look and feel.

Monochrome photography

The X-Pro1 is as much at home shooting black & white images as it is capturing colour. A selection of filter effects allows you to simulate the effect of coloured filters in front of the lens, which drastically changes the way that various colours are represented in black & white. Use yellow, orange or red filters to add depth and texture to dramatic skies, or a green filter to enhance skin tones in portraits.

Expanded dynamic range

Capture images as your eye sees them, using dynamic-range control to hold detail in dark shadow areas and bright highlights. The X-Pro1 can apply dynamic-range control automatically or you can select the degree to which the tonal range is compressed yourself, choosing from 100 to 400%.

Powerful built-in auto bracketing functions

Sometimes a shot is too important to leave things to chance. Cover all eventualities by bracketing exposure, ISO, dynamic range and film mode, then decide which of the capture images you like best when you return home.

Press the shutter once and the X-Pro1 will capture three exposures of the same scene in rapid succession, each using a different dynamic range setting (100%, 200% and 400%).

Auto-expsoure bracketing

In tricky lighting situations it’s often best to capture images at different exposures to make sure you get the photograph you want. The X-Pro1 can do this for you automatically, varying exposure in 1/3, 2/3 and whole stops.

Vary ISO sensitivity between frames (in 1/3, 2/3 or whole stops) to ensure you get the right trade-off between camera shake and low noise - resulting in the best image quality possible.

High-speed continuous shooting at 5fps

Shoot at 5 frames per second for a maximum of 10 shots in a row, thanks the new, speedy EXR image processor and CMOS sensor. Great for fast moving subjects and on-the-fly street photography.

RAW shooting

The X-Pro1 can capture JPEG files for convenience, 12-bit RAW files for the ultimate in image quality or both. Choose between Fine, Normal, Fine+RAW, Normal+RAW or RAW.

In-camera RAW converter

Process RAW files in camera, choosing white balance, exposure compensation and even film simulation modes retrospectively. The results are saved to memory card separately from the original file, which is left unchanged. No PC required!

RAW conversion software included

Included with the camera is SILKPIX® software, which not only allows precise adjustment and processing of Raw files, but also playback of HD video. RAW files from the X-Pro1 can be processed in a number of popular software packages, including Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. Also

Motion Panorama 180 - Photo Gallery Quality

Sweep the X-Pro1 through an angle of up to 180° and create stunning panoramic photographs without the need for post processing on your PC or Mac. Even when printed at A3 size there is no drop in image quality. Hold the camera vertically to include more top-to-bottom in the scene.
